... begins in the 1930´s after the first World cup in football in Montevideo, Uruguay. We started by opening our first bookstore in Belgrade in Poenkareova street in 1936, now known as Makedonska street, in the same place where now is the building of Municipality of Stari Grad. At the end of the 30´s we opened the second bookstore in Knez Mihailova street which was torn down during WWII, a at last the third bookstore was opened opposite of Zeleni Venac green-market in year 1939. The founder of our publishing bookstores was Milovan "El Grande" Jakšić, the best goalkeeper in the first World cup in football and one of the best goalkeepers in Yugoslavia at that time. We also had a printing house in Cetinjska street near the first bookstore, since in those days it was normal that a bookstore is also a publishing bookstore, so we had exclusive rights for printing books written by Pearl Buck, Louis Bromfield and others. In 1948 the communists seized everything he owned, after that he went back to football as one of the founders of FC Red Star, Belgrade. He died in Cairo, Egypt from a stoke while he was with the team on tour as technical director of FC Red Star.
Now after many years we are trying to follow his footsteps and place the name JAKŠIĆ where it was back in the days but with new and moder ideas, also we are trying to restore the old books and comics that were printed back in time. We sincerely are hoping to achieve that goal
